Orang Asli want jetty to be upgraded or rebuilt
ENDAU: The Orang Asli community in Labong, near here, is urging the authorities to upgrade or rebuild a jetty at Sungai Padan.
They said the jetty was in a sorry state and the area leading to it was covered in overgrowth.
The 10-year-old jetty is an alternative route for the Orang Asli to get to Endau, especially when the access road to the town is flooded.
Awang Delima, a 67-year-old resident, urged the authorities to upgrade the jetty and build a roof over it.
He said he used the jetty on his way to gather nipah leaves along the embankment of Sungai Padang.
"It is high time the jetty is upgraded or replaced. Even though many villagers have motor vehicles, the importance of the river as an alternative route cannot be denied," he added.
He also urged anglers to help keep the jetty clean.
