ELEGANT: Tallest contestant, Olivia Teng, is one step closer to achieving her dream of becoming an international model
IPOH: A PET groomer beat 11 beauties to win the Miss Perak Kebaya 2012 pageant held here recently.
Olivia Teng, 22, who aspires to be an international model is the tallest contestant, standing at 179cm.
She is no stranger to beauty pageants, having been crowned Miss Perak Model last year and was also one of the finalists for Miss Malaysia Model 2011 and Miss Chinatown 2011.
She walked away with RM2,000 and a trophy, sash and gifts worth RM3,000.
First runner-up was student Carey Tan, 20, who won RM1,200 and prizes valued at RM2,000 while Steffieliz Wong, a 27-year-old beauty consultant, who emerged as the second runner-up received RM800 and prizes worth RM1,200.
Subsidiary titles were Miss Beautiful Hair won by Kinki Leong; Miss Elegance Rebecca Lee; Miss Photogenic Lim Mei Lee; and Miss Web Popular Ico Chong.
Each received RM500 and a facial treatment package worth RM300.
The night started off with an evening gown parade followed by a round of fashionable kebaya fashions on stage.
The evening gowns showcased Malaysian fashion designer Mira Fuad's designs, a combination of Malay and western style gowns.
Later, six finalists were selected among the 12 contestants, followed by a question-and-answer session.
Ad Mission presenter Richard Leong said the pageant aimed to promote tourism, cultural diversity and bring back the kebaya fashion.
"It also opens the avenue for the ladies to enter into fields of entertainment, film and commercial advertising.
"The finalists will sign up to be contract models with the company and act as ambassadors of kebaya in Xi'an, China," he said.
Leong added that the top three winners will represent the state to compete at the Miss Malaysia Kebaya 2012 in Kuala Lumpur in September.
