YOUTH GATHERING: It was a mix of business and pleasure at the 39th Multiple District 308 Leo Forum

LANGKAWI: MORE than 1,000 members of Leo and Lions Clubs from Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei descended on Langkawi recently for the three-day 39th Multiple District 308 Leo Forum.

Those who arrived early on the first day were taken on a tour of the island's Geopark.

Opening the forum in the evening was Anthony Cheong, council chairperson of Multiple District 308. This was followed by the Fellowship Night with the theme of "Retro & Futurism".

Most of the participants were sportingly dressed to suit the theme. Roman centurions seen mingling with cowboys, while an Egyptian pharaoh was accompanied by his retinue.

There were also pirates, Arabian princes and belles of the ball.

The next day the Leos attended various schools for the incoming cabinet officers, while the adults had their own dialogue session for Leo advisers.

This was followed by the respective sub-district forums, where awards were given to Leos who had had made outstanding contributions.

These included project awards for community service, international relationship, information technology, fund-raising and club bulletins.

The Leos and Lions were dressed in their finest outfits for the banquet night, as the dress code was formal.

Themed "Starry Starry Night", the event featured song and dance performances as well as an entertaining beatbox show.

The closing ceremony was held the next day. It was preceded by a talk on the forum's theme of "Fly Beyond Dreams -- We Believe!" by past international director Ellis Suriyaty Omar.

The annual Leo Forum is normally held during the mid-term holidays.

It was aimed at bringing together the youth members to celebrate their involvement in community service.
