ALOR STAR: Doing its bit for a good cause, Sultanah Bahiyah Foundation recently brought Hari Raya Aidilfitri cheer to some 180 poor and needy people here.

Big smiles flashed across the faces of the recipients as they received duit raya from the foundation's welfare committee chairman Datuk Tunku Nafisah Sultan Badlishah.

The foundation's general manager Misbah Abdul Hamid said the contribution was the foundation's annual activity for the less privileged during festive seasons.

A diabetic and wheelchair-bound, Puat Ahmad, 53, from Kampung Lorong Pendekar said he depended on his monthly RM300 aid from the Welfare Departement.

"The foundation's gifts are definitely timely as we prepare for the fasting month," he said.

"My wife, our four children and I are most grateful to all at the foundation."

The recipients were also treated to lunch at Starcity Hotel, where the event was held.
