IPOH: SOME 180 single mothers, orphans, children and elderly people from various districts in Perak went on a shopping spree at a shopping complex here before Hari Raya, thanks to Felcra Bhd.

They each shopped for RM250 worth of goods, clothing and essential items.

The orphans were from Nur Kasih Orphanage in Ipoh.

The mothers were busy selecting the outfits for their children, while Wanita and Puteri Umno members and Felcra staff helped the orphans.

The elderly and single mothers also purchased foodstuff such as rice, milk powder, sugar and drinks.

Felcra chairman Datuk Tajuddin Abdul Rahman said it was the group's social responsibility in giving the less fortunate a joyous Hari Raya.

Meanwhile, a factory worker, Umi Kalsom Abd Majid, 44, who came with her nine-year-old twin sons, Mohd Hakim Mohd Asri and Mohd Hakimi, was overjoyed with her gifts.

"Felcra has lessened our financial burden. The children have new clothes now," said Umi from Kampung Kuala Gepai, Bidor.

Single mother Aminah Shahbudin, 31, who was picking up groceries said: "The food will come in handy as my household expenses go up during the festive season."
