IPOH: Sales director Anthony Ang was installed as president of Rotary Club of Ipoh (RCI) for the 2012/2013 term recently. The installation ceremony was held at the Meru Valley Golf Resort here.

The night also witnessed the installation of the new Board of Directors namely Dr Tan Teong Heong (vice-president), Gavin Tang (secretary), Leong Keng Yuen (treasurer), Datuk Richard Small (international service), Chan Kok Chow (community service), Lau Win Sang (vocational), Cheah Sau Voon (club administration) and S. Santhanathan (president nominee).

Ang said the club's main project for this year focused on strengthening the club's position as a Service Club of Choice by promoting community projects.

"Some of the projects include inter-school debates, secondary school scholarships, international student exchanges and vocational visits to industrial sites.

"Earlier this year, we have provided 60 pupils from the Perak Association of Intellectually Disabled free dental check-ups under its Special Children Programme.

"The club also contributed 300 sets of mattresses costing RM6,000 to the recent Kuala Dipang flood victims," he said.

He added that the club would continue providing services to help complete the renovation of Precious Gift Home started last year, which requires RM80,000 worth of materials and labour.

"However, for long-term plans the club is now discussing with Ipoh City Council to help an orphanage in dire condition by having it replaced with a new one.

"The council will then allocate a piece of land for building the new home. The club will donate RM300,000 towards the building of the home.

"There will also be an on-going discussion with the council regarding construction of a multi- purpose hall for an orphanage, and a futsal court at the Meru Jaya Area," said Ang. By Diana Yeoh
