St Nicholas Home holds first Braille karaoke contest
GEORGE TOWN: Singing straight from the heart, Jarinah Yusof, 23, won over the judges to win in the "Braille Karaoke Contest for the Blind" at St Nicholas Home for the Visually Impaired, recently.
Jarinah, a trainer at the home's handicraft centre, beat 19 others with her rendition of Miley Cyrus' The Climb.
Organised by the home's Information and Resource Centre for the first time, the karaoke competition was held at the home's Dewan Tunku.
Organising chairman C. Sathirao said the objectives of the contest were to enable the blind to discover their talent and develop self-esteem, and most of all, have fun.
"An important objective was to enable the blind and visually-impaired to have a platform to showcase their talent as few avenues are available for them," said Sathirao.
Masseur Mohd Fadzil A. Sahari, 26, came in second with Cukup Sekali and technician Robert Maidin, 41, captured third place with his version of Di-Ambang Sore.
