Suspended policeman among 3 nabbed in kidnap case
ALOR SETAR: Three men, aged between 28 and 50, including a policeman who was suspended from his duties at the Jalan Duta Toll Plaza in Kuala Lumpur, were detained yesterday in connection with a kidnap case in Kuala Muda, Sungai Petani.
Kedah Police Chief Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said a 23-year-old was kidnapped in front of a hotel in Bedong near Sungai Petani at about 11am on Friday. "During the incident, the vitim had just walked out of the hotel to his car when he was dragged into another car and believed to have been taken to KualaLumpur," he told reporters here today.
Ahmad said the kidnappers who had initially demanded RM60,000 as ransom forthe victim's release had agreed to settle for RM40,000 after negotiations with the family members. "After the family had paid the ransom money to the kidnappers, we managed to nab the kidnappers at about 2am and recover the RM40,000 ransom money while thevictim was also safe. The three suspects were detained at the Kuala Muda policestation for investigations," he said.
Ahmad said initial investigations revealed that all three suspects were positive for drugs while two of them had previous criminal records. "The policeman, aged 50, was suspended from his duties because of his drug addiction," he said adding that if convicted, they may face the death sentence,imprisonment for life. "During the arrest we also seized four hand phones, a hand-cuff, a HondaCivic car that was reported stolen in the klang valley and recovered the victim's Proton Gen2 car," he said. -- BERNAMA
