GEORGE TOWN: THE 5th Asia-Pacific Tourism Promotion Organisation (TPO) forum, which starts today, will showcase a myriad of cultural activities including a trishaw tour within the heritage enclave.
Selected international delegates will be ferried in trishaws while being accompanied by some 100 cyclists to tour the various historical sites along the heritage trail in the inner city.
About 10 paragliders will hover above the Unesco Heritage City in conjunction with the forum which ends on Wednesday at a hotel in Batu Ferringhi.
Penang Island Municipal Council president Datuk Patahiyah Ismail said the delegates would be exposed to the traditional cultural shows, including boria and chingay performances.
She said the two main venues for the performances would be held at the Friendship Park in front of the Bayview Hotel and the Upper Penang Road.
"The event will be an eye-opener for the delegates to enjoy the sights and sounds of the heritage trail.
"There will be a hive of activities to depict our rich cultural diversity to our visitors," Patahiyah said.
She was speaking at a recent launch to promote the TPO forum at the city stadium in Lorong Kulit where several kindergarten children left their handprints on a white board to kick-start MPPP's green initiative.
Among the highlights will be the unveiling of TPO sculpture, a baba nyonya performance with the declaration of green initiatives in George Town as a world heritage site.
Also featured are local handicraft, games of congkak and gasing, cooking demonstrations as well as modern dance performances.
