ALOR STAR: Kindness is the universal language of love that applies to everyone, irrespective of race and religion.
And Fo Shi Tang Temple in Taman Berjaya here is one such caring organisation.
Each year since 2009, it has donated food items to senior citizens aged 65 and above.
This year would be no exception with the annual care-sharing event planned for later this month.
To facilitate its intentions, members of the temple recently carried out a registration exercise for those who qualify for its assistance.
A total of 383 senior citizens from the various communities signed up. Temple head Yaw Mei Fen said all who deserve the aid will be shortlisted.
"It's our way of helping to lessen the burden of the poor, needy and the elderly. We believe in sharing and we share with all who deserve to be helped," she said.
The food items, worth about RM50 per recipient, will comprise rice, milk, dried noodles and vegetables.
One of the recipients, Siti Meriam Yahya, 74, praised the temple for helping those in need.
A first-time recipient, she said the temple's noble gesture should be emulated by others.
