ALOR STAR: Fazliana Ahmad Buderi is the top student at Mu'adzam Shah Polytechnic (Polimas).

The 23-year-old electrical engineering graduate from Temerloh, Pahang, received the Director's Award for Academic and Co-curriculum achievements at Polimas's 26th convocation in Kubang Pasu, near here, recently.

She received her diploma from the Sultan of Kedah Council of Regency member Tan Sri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah.

She was among 1,907 graduates who received their scrolls.

Fazliana, the fourth among nine children, said she had her parents to thank for her success.

"We are a very poor family. My mother sells kuih while my father is a pensioner with diabetes.

"Life is quite difficult for us but my parents have persevered and made sure that my siblings and I enjoy a decent life," she said, holding tight to her mother, Noriah Abdul Rahman.

Also present were her father and two younger sisters.

Fazliana, who is pursuing her first degree in electrical engineering (industrial power) at Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, aspires to be a lecturer.

"I want to help others, especially in the field of education. I especially want to help my parents and younger siblings enjoy a better life."
