CONTRADICTORY traffic signs are confusing while literally upside-down ones are amusing motorists in Tanjung Bungah, here.
GEORGE TOWN : A "beri laluan" (give way) sign stands alongside traffic lights at the junction of Jalan Tanjung Bungah and Jalan Lembah Permai.
Many motorists are caught off guard at the junction, unsure of whether to drive on or to wait when the traffic light is red.
Loo Cheng Boo, 45, is among those confused by the contradictory traffic sign.
"The thoughtless sign has confused many road users.
"It should be taken off as soon as possible, before an accident occurs," Loo said.
Meanwhile, on the concrete slab road divider along the busy Jalan Tanjung Bungah, a U-turn sign has been put up -- upside down.
S. Marimuthu, 36, said the glaring mistake must be rectified without further delay.
"The reputation of the Penang Island Muncipal Council is at stake so it is in their best interests to remove the upside-down U-turn sign," he said.
MPPP councillor Teh Lai Heng, who is a member of the Infrastructure and Traffic Management Committee, said the traffic signs were not under the jurisdiction of MPPP but under the the Public Works Department's (JKR).
Teh, who took note of the complaints, thanked Streets for highlighting the matter.
"I will forward the complaints to JKR for remedial action," Teh said
