TERMS AND CONDITIONS

  1. The “New Straits Times Sudoku Tournament 2007 Contest (“the Contest) is open to all citizens of Malaysia except for the  employees of The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad, its group of companies and their immediate family members.
  2. The New Straits Times Sudoku Tournament will be held on 21st July 2007 Berjaya Times Square. There will be 5 categories:

    Category 1 (Below 18 years old)
    Category 2 (18 years old and above)
    Category 3 (50 years and above)
    Category 4 (Parent and Teen team)
    Category 5 (Walk-In : This will be on a first come first serve basis at Berjaya Times Square)

  3. Winners from the monthly New Straits Times Sudoku Challenge which ran from March 10th to May 26th 2007 will not be eligible to enter the above categories.
  4. Subject to eligibility conditions, 20 participants with the duly completed forms will be chosen for each category under Categories 1 to 4. For Category 4 the “Parent and Teen (son/daughter)” team, “Teen” is classified as 13 – 19 years of age. For Category 5, participants will be chosen from the first 20 walk-in persons who register at Berjaya Times Square. Participants are only eligible to participate once in the categories mentioned above.
  5. For walk ins: Subject to eligibility conditions, registration starts 11am on 21st July 2007 at Berjaya Times Square, Concourse Area, Lower Ground. Interested participants are required to bring along their IC. No representatives are allowed. Participants are eligible to participate only once  - should it be in the in the categories mentioned above or for the showdown category.
  6. Interested readers are required to complete the form given with their details and mail it back to us no later than 26th June 2007. All registration form must reach us by 12 midnight on the closing date.
  7. Use original registration forms only. Photocopies will not be accepted.
  8. 80 participants for Categories 1 to 4 will be selected by the way of lucky draw on 4th July 2007. This session will be conducted at 4pm at the Function Room, 5th Floor, Anjung Riong of the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad, Balai Berita Bangsar, 31 Jalan Riong, 59100 Kuala Lumpur.
  9. In the challenge, participants will have to complete with the puzzle given in the shortest time possible. Participants will be given a maximum time of 20 minutes to complete the puzzle. Failing which the participant(s) will be disqualified. To complete the puzzle, participants must fill in the squares in the grid so that each row, column and each of the 3x3 squares contain all digits from 1-9 without repeating any numbers.
  10. By participating in this challenge, participants agree to comply and be bound by these rules and regulations and decision of NSTP.
  11. NSTP reserves the right to substitute any prize with another of similar value without prior notice. All prizes are non-transferable and non-exchangeable for cash.
  12. Each winner or its representative MUST claim the prize, which will be informed in due course. Failing which the winner must collect the prize within 1 month from the date of the prize presentation. Failure to do so will result in the winner forfeiting the prize.
  13. Acceptance of prizes constitutes permission to NSTP to use the winners’ name and photographs for the purpose of publicity at any point without further compensation or notice.
  14. NSTP shall not bear the cost of traveling, accommodation and any other cost for attending the lucky draw, the collection of prizes and the participation in the New Straits Times Sudoku Tournament unless declared otherwise.
  15. In event of postponement or change of any date or venue, a new date or replacement venue will be announced.
  16. Judge’s decision is final and afterwhich no correspondence will be entertained.
  17. Forms are available in New Straits Times starting June 1, 2007. Closing date for registration is June 26, 2007.
