RM100m to help Bumi traders

New Teraju outreach programme to help spur Bumiputera economy throughout nation

 UNIT Peneraju Agenda Bumiputera (Teraju) will spend RM100 million this year on its newly-launched Jejak 2012, an outreach programme to help Bumiputera entrepreneurs.

 Jejak 2012, aimed at reaching out to entrepreneurs across the nation, was launched by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop on Saturday.

 Nor Mohamed said the money would come from Teraju’s RM2 billion  fund and Jejak 2012 would be a conducive interaction channel between Teraju and entrepreneurs nationwide.

 Teraju chief executive officer Husni Salleh said Teraju had put in place various initiatives to help spur the Bumiputera economy.

 Jejak 2012 would hold  nationwide roadshows, starting with the northern region.

 It will expand its reach to Sarawak on March 6 and 7, followed by Johor, Sabah and the East Coast Economic Region.

 Husni also said the launch of Teraju@Koridor would  see Teraju establishing a presence within the five economic regions across Malaysia.

 The first centre, Teraju@Koridor Utara, will be established in Penang.

  “With a regional presence, Teraju’s programmes like TeraS, Facilitation Fund, Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera dan Skim Jejak Jaya Bumiputera, will be more accessible to entrepreneurs.

  “Each centre will offer localised support, staffed by local officers who already have a strong grasp of key markets in that particular area,” Husni said.

  Teraju will collaborate with various entrepreneur development organisations, industrial development organisations and developmental finance institutions, such as Mara, Tekun, PNB, SME Bank and PNS, to ensure that entrepre-neurs have the complete tools to develop their businesses.

  At the event, Nor Mohamed   also announced a RM100 million  fund for the development of entrepreneurs in the northern region.

  The money has been allocated for development of businesses within the agriculture sector (RM30 million), for manufacturing (RM40 million), tourism (RM15 million) and logistics (RM15 million) over the next two years.

  Nor Mohamed also praised Teraju’s TeraS programme, which had managed to attract 80 companies.

  The programme aims  to identify high-performing Bumiputera companies with good potential for growth over the next five years  and help them grow beyond local markets, through merit-based access to business opportunities.

  A total of 1,100 companies are expected to be identified by 2013.

  The event also saw the launch of Yayasan Peneraju Pendidikan Bumiputera’s Peneraju Tunas programme.

  “The programme aims to identify and nurture ‘challenged’ Bumiputera talents by providing them with developmental and academic opportunities that might otherwise be out of their reach,” said Husni.

  A collaborative effort between Teraju and ECE Technologies Sdn Bhd  was also announced to help establish and develop ECE’s vendor development programme.

  ECE designs, develops, manufactures, assembles, markets and distributes audiovisual, home and kitchen appliances for the local and international markets.
