THE residents of Rumah Pangsa Bercham in Ipoh, Perak, are complaining about the dumping of garbage at the back of their building, which is also swarming with pests.

A resident, who wishes to be knows only as Lam, said the problem has been going on for years and the Ipoh City Council had done nothing to clean up the area.

“Besides the dumping of garbage and pests, some parts of the building are also covered with weeds.

“Even the facilities are not maintained. Some residents are moving out because of these problems.

“Garbage is also found at one of the empty units at this building.

“People throw their garbage there as they are too lazy to go to the garbage area downstairs.”

Lam added that this place used to be a beautiful area to
live in, but due to a lack of
maintenance, it had become dirty.”

ACTIONLINE:

Ipoh City councillor Aldrich Low said the cleanliness of the area was not solely the responsibility of the council but the residents, too.

“The council will hold a meeting with residents this week to listen to their problem.

“A gotong-royong will be organised and I hope residents can take part in it to ensure that their area is free of health and safety risks.”
