Maybank approves virtually all repayment assistance applications

KUALA LUMPUR: More than 99 per cent of applications for repayment assistance processed by Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) have been approved as at October 15.

In a statement today, Maybank said these comprise applications by both individuals and SME customers seeking additional financial support following the end of the six-month blanket loan moratorium on September 30.

Of these approved applications, some 38 per cent have been granted a further moratorium on the repayment of their loans or financing.

Maybank community financial services group chief executive officer Datuk John Chong said the bank had processed 81,000 applications from these two categories of customers.

"We are still in the midst of processing additional applications given that there has been the last minute rush from those who have come in after October 1.

"Maybank is ever ready to continue supporting our customers and those who need assistance can still contact us to discuss repayment packages to suit their current financial needs," he said.

Maybank said the repayment assistance packages includes additional months' deferment of loan or financing repayments for those recently unemployed as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, as well as reduction of loan or financing repayments for those with reduced income.

Chong said over 85 per cent of the Maybank's retail customer base had continued to service their loans or financing as usual from October 1.

"We will continue to engage with those facing challenges to assist them with appropriate solutions," he said.

Chong said in view of the current conditional Movement Restriction Order in certain regions within the country, the bank was encouraging customers who wished to apply for the assistance to do so via Maybank2u, email at weassist@maybank.com or call any Maybank branch, SME Centre or Auto Finance Centre nationwide.
