CIMB Group names new president. CEO for Thai unit

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Group Holdings Bhd has appointed Paul Wong Chee Kin as the new president and chief executive officer (CEO) of CIMB Thai effective from February 1 this year.

Wong will succeed Sutee Losoponkul, who was an acting president and CEO since last September.

"Sutee will remain with CIMB Thai and assume the role as advisor to the president and CEO up to December 31, 2021. 

"These appointments have received approval from the Bank of Thailand," CIMB said in a statement today.

Wong is currently CIMB's group chief operations officer, overseeing activities across functions in the areas of payments and digitalisation as well as strategy, customer delivery and process improvements. 

He started his career at CIMB Group in 2007 as senior vice president and head of sales management of CIMB Bank Bhd and had been assigned to various positions within the group including stints in the Philippines and Singapore. 

"He has a strong track record in strategic projects regionally, in digitalisation and transformation, and brings in depth functional experience in operations, having successfully led and transformed group operations. 

"Wong also served on the board of directors for Principal Asset Management Bhd," it said.

CIMB Group chairman Datuk Mohd Nasir Ahmad said Wong was a proven senior talent having served in various capacities across the group for 13 years.

Nasir said Thailand wa a strategic market for CIMB as the group works towards its vision to be the leading focused Asean bank. 

"His extensive industry and management experience will be instrumental in driving our ambitions and plans to build an even stronger and sustainable CIMB franchise for the benefit of our clients."

"I am also pleased that Sutee will remain as advisor to ensure a seamless transition," Nasir added.
