Yasmin steps down from Pos Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Yasmin Mahmood is stepping down as Pos Malaysia Bhd's independent non-executive chairman, effective April 1, 2021 at the anniversary of having served a two-year term.

The company in a statement said Yasmin had expressed her intention to step down due to her growing responsibilities in Malaysia and regionally.

"She has been a valuable member of Pos Malaysia, having steered the board and management towards embracing digital initiatives, rationalising the postal tariff as well as putting the company in the right footing towards a robust turnaround plan.

"The company respects the wishes of Datuk Yasmin in wanting to spend more time in giving back to the society.

"It has been a privilege having her as chairman and the company would like to thank Datuk Yasmin for her invaluable contribution in making Pos Malaysia a stronger group and at the same time wish her all the success in her altruistic initiatives," the company said.

Yasmin was appointed as Pos Malaysia independent non-executive chairman on April 1, 2019.

She served various technology giants, starting with being general manager of Hewlett Packard Malaysia's Commercial Channels Organisation (1995 – 1999), taking on a dual-role of general manager and regional corporate director of Dell Malaysia (1999 – 2006), before moving on to become Microsoft Malaysia's managing director (2006 – 2009).

In September 2014, she was appointed chief executive officer of Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC).

Meanwhile, Pos Malaysia has appointed one of its current board members Datuk Seri Syed Faisal Albar as its non-executive chairman to replace Yasmin.

Syed Faisal is currently the group managing director of DRB-Hicom Bhd and had served as group managing director of Pos Malaysia from 2008 to 2011.

At the same time, Pos Malaysia has also appointed Datuk Jezilee Mohamad Ramli as its non-executive director on its board.

Jezilee had served Pos Malaysia as its group chief, corporate services and is currently the chief operating officer, corporate services of DRB-Hicom.
