Lazada launches Merdeka sales, buy local campaigns to support Malaysian entrepreneurs

KUALA LUMPUR: Lazada's Malaysia has launched Jualan Merdeka and Sapot Lokal x Kempen Beli Barangan Malaysia (KBBM) as part of its commitment to supporting the government initiatives and in conjunction with Merdeka month.

Lazada Malaysia chief executive officer Alan Chan said this was in support of initiatives driven by the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry (KPDNHEP) to further support local entrepreneurs.

Chan said Lazada was fully supportive of KPDNHEP effort to drive digital commerce activity to accelerate the growth of the local economy via domestic consumption.

"Through these locally relevant initiatives, we aspire to foster greater confidence in local brands and businesses, while providing easier access for consumers to purchase 'Made in Malaysia' products via our platform.

"We hope that it will also make it easier for consumers to save more, hence making online shopping on Lazada more convenient, affordable and accessible for everyone," he told reporters at Lazada Malaysia's Merdeka and Malaysia day celebrations today.

Lazada is home to thousands of Malaysian sellers that are committed to connect with local customers by offering budget-friendly products in various categories.

Local sellers such as Utharsh Designers, Big Care Mart, Niz Craft, Caring Moms, Bambamtots and Stickerrific are striving to grow their businesses on the online marketplace and these campaigns will create greater visibility for them.

Lazada also provides a platform for many homegrown brands including Fazbulous by Fazura, Loka Made, Signature Market, The Hive Zero Waste Store, Batik Boutique, Siti Khadijah, Zaahara, Safi, The Skinny Bakers, Nutribah and Farm Fresh.

From Aug 25 to Dec 31, shoppers can redeem free shipping vouchers worth RM6 with a minimum spend of RM30, and RM5 off vouchers with a minimum spend of RM30.

The Merdeka and Malaysia day celebration was held at Lazada Visitor Center in Bangsar South.

The hybrid event was hosted in person and via live stream, with more than 800 employees from Lazada Malaysia.

The event saw a symbolic flag-off of the Lazada logistics blue vans that were decked out with the Jalur Gemilang Malaysia flags.

Lazada also recognised several inspiring Malaysian sellers and online stores during the Kita Kita Lazada Seller Recognition Ceremony.
