Move aside AirAsia, low cost carrier MYAirline taking off soon

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's first low cost carrier, MYAirline is gearing up for its launch "very soon",  believed to be out of Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2).

Details of the exact launch as well as its first destination was yet to be known but the New Straits Times learned that MyAirline was undergoing its final assessment with the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom).

"MYAirline secured an air operator's certificate (AOC) recently and this is a very important step for them. They're now undergoing a final assessment with Mavcom before getting the green light to fully start operating," a source told the NST today.

MyAirline on Sept 26 shared on its official Instagram account that it had received an air operator certificate (AOC). The permit is valid from Oct 1 2022 to Sept 30 2023.

Aircraft operators in Malaysia must obtain an AOC from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia before using their aircraft for commercial purposes.

The new airline has also received a conditional air service licence (ASL) from Mavcom that is valid until Dec 31 2022.

The carrier is waiting for the aviation authority to convert the conditional ASL status to a current status.

It is learned that MYAirline had on Dept 4 conducted a final simulation test at klia2 to check its airport facilities systems.

Its red and grey coloured Airbus A320 was parked at the apron, right next to another A320 which belonged to its rival, Capital A Bhd.

On its official website, the airline posted several list of job positions available including marketing executive, brand team lead, commercial and sales executives, creative designer as well as communications manager, to name a few.

MyAirline was incorporated in January 2021 with RM2 million as its paid-up capital.

The carrier's shareholders include Zillion Wealth Bhd, which holds 88 per cent of the shares, Trillion Cove Holdings Bhd (10 per cent) and Rayner Teo (2.0 per cent) who is the chief executive officer.
