Domestic new vehicle sales dipped 5.8pc to 61k units in October

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's new vehicle sales fell 5.8 per cent to 61,002 units in October 2022, compared with 64,762 units in the same month last year, according to the data provided by the Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA).

Sales of passenger vehicles (PV) for the month were 54,498 units, while commercial vehicles (CV) stood at 6,504 units.

The association said that for the first ten months of 2022, vehicle sales stood at 577,902 against 383,589 units a year ago.

"Year-to-date (YTD) sales volume for October 2022 was 50 per cent higher than in 2021.

"Total industry volume (TIV) for October 2022 was 10 per cent lower than September 2022, which was at 67,698 units," it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, MAA said that for the total production, 58,991 vehicles were produced in October compared with 65,410 units in October 2021.

YTD, total vehicle production increased 54 per cent to 567,752 from 369,406 last year, it said.

On the outlook, MAA said sales in November 2022 are expected to be maintained at the October 2022 level.

"However, shortage of chips and components continued to affect certain makes, albeit at a much smaller scale," it added.
