Modenas launches 3 new models

DRB-HICOM Group’s Motosikal dan Enjin Nasional Sdn Bhd (Modenas) aims to set the streets on fire with the much-anticipated launch of three new street bikes made locally in collaboration with Bajaj Auto Ltd .

India’s Bajaj is the world’s fourth-largest three and two-wheeler manufacturer.

The Modenas Pulsar RS200, NS200 and V15 not only boast of the latest technology from the Indian giant but also ushers in a totally new market segment for Modenas.

“We are extremely happy with this latest collaboration with Bajaj as it has given us the opportunity to penetrate a fresh segment that is booming and will continue to grow stronger in years to come” said Datuk Abdul Harith Abdullah, DRB-HICOM’s chief operating officer for automotive distribution and manufacturing and engineering.

DRB-HICOM Bhd chairman Tan Sri Mohd Khamil Jamil and Bajaj Auto president of international business, Rakesh Sharma officiated at the launch.

Bajaj currently produces four million motorcycles annually and exports more than 1.5 million units to more than 75 countries, in which it holds leadership position in around 20. The Bajaj brand is well-known across several countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South and Southeast Asia.

Harith said the collaboration with Bajaj was a natural phase for Modenas as one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the region. The Malaysian company is well known for its differentiated product lines, innovative R&D team and rigorous product testing.

The Pulsar RS200 and NS200 feature Bajaj’s most advanced patented triple spark 4 Valve 200cc (digital triple spark ignition) DTS-I engine, supported by an efficient fuel injection delivery system to provide the right surge of power and enhanced fuel efficiency.

“We are happy to be able to bring these technologies to Malaysia,” said Sharma.

The Pulsar RS200 and NS200 are powered by a 199cc, SOHC, liquid cooled, single cylinder fuel injection engine. With a six-speed transmission, the bikes boast 24hp at 9500 rpm and 18.6 Nm of torque at 8000 rpm respectively.

Modenas is welcoming street bike enthusiasts to test ride the newly launched machines at the DRB-HICOM Autofest 2017, being held at the EON Complex in Glenmarie Shah Alam. The event ended on Sunday.
