BMW Group Malaysia, the official distributor of BMW and MINI cars in the country, has launched the new MINI Cooper S 3 Door, MINI Cooper S 5 Door and MINI John Cooper Works Hatch, with a starting price of RM226,888, excluding insurance.
“Since the introduction of the third generation MINI in 2014, we have seen more than 1,500 units delivered in Malaysia, accounting for more than half of the total deliveries of MINI vehicles here.
“Malaysians clearly love the thrill of the go-kart driving capabilities that is signature to the MINI brand, combined with the current and modern enhancements built harmoniously into its iconic premium compact design, which elevates its appeal further,” said MINI Malaysia head Kidd Yam at the launching ceremony.
The new MINI stays faithful to these legendary roots, but is now a current and contemporary icon, setting new benchmarks once again for emotive, premium design, clever functionality and its signature go-kart handling.
Both the facelifted MINI Cooper S 3 Door and 5 Door is powered by the 2.0-litre four-cylinder MINI TwinPower turbo engine, mated to the seven-speed dual clutch transmission and an electronic gear shifter. It produces 192hp and 280Nm of torque, with a top speed of 235kph.
MINI claims that the 3 Door can complete the century sprint in 6.7 seconds, while the 5 Door can do it at 6.8 seconds.
The most obvious difference on the new MINI Cooper S 3 Door and 5 Door is the distinctive Union Jack tail lamps. Both MINI Cooper S are equipped with bi-LED headlamps, daytime running lights, updated fuel gauge graphic, illuminated dashboard trim panel with Union Jack design, reverse camera, 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment display, the modern looking shift by wire gear lever, MINI Logo Projection puddle lights, comfort access keyless entry, toggle switch engine starter, auto lights and wipers, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control and reverse sensors.
Meanwhile, the 5 Door gets fitted with the John Cooper Works (JCW) aerodynamic kit, which includes the more aggressive front bumper and rear diffuser design, deeper side skirts and larger tailgate spoiler. The 3 Door is equipped with 17-inch Cosmos Spoke alloy wheels finished in black, while the 5 Door has the JCW Track Spoke alloy wheels in black.
The 3 Door gets the new MINI Yours Illuminated Cockpit, featuring the Union Jack graphics, which can be lit up to 12 colours, while the 5 Door is fitted with black chequered trims.
Concurrently, the MINI John Cooper Works Hatch has a more powerful 2.0-litre four-cylinder MINI TwinPower Turbo engine that is paired with an eight-speed Steptronic Sports automatic transmission, resulting in 231hp and 320Nm of torque and a top speed of 246kph.
The company claims that the John Cooper Works Hatch can dash from standstill to 100kph in 6.1 seconds.
It comes with a larger rear spoiler, 18-inch JCW Cup Spoke alloy wheels, larger JCW red brake calipers brake system, suspension with adaptive dampers, leather upholstery, JCW side sill plates, stainless steel pedals, MINI Yours illuminated cockpit, 8.8-inch infotainment system, 12-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, head up display, Qi wireless charging, panoramic sliding sunroof and JCW Racing Seats with Dinamica leather.
As for the safety aspects, all models comes with six airbags, electronic differential lock, dynamic traction and stability control.
The MINI Cooper S 3 Door and 5 Door colour options include Chilli Red, Pepper White, White Silver, British Racing Green and Starlight Blue. The 3 Door has the additional Thunder Grey and Solaris Orange, while the 5 Door gets an exclusive Emerald Grey. Both versions can be paired with either black or white roof, door mirror caps and sports stripes.
The John Cooper Works Hatch is available in Rebel Green and Midnight White. It can be matched with either the black or red roof.
For the first time in Southeast Asia, the company introduced the MINI Yours Customised Accessories that allow retrofit components such as side scuttles, cockpit facia, LED door sills finishers and LED door projector to be produced according to the customer’s personally-designed specifications. The MINI Cooper S 3 Door is retailed at RM226,888 and the 5 Door is priced at RM236,888. Simultaneously, the MINI John Cooper Works Hatch is sold for RM283,888.
