Hyundai introduces Executive variant of Elantra

KUALA LUMPUR: Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) has introduced a new Executive variant for its seventh-generation Hyundai Elantra to strategically capture a bigger market share of the C-segment passenger car market.

To be sold alongside the Premium variant, the Executive is priced at RM139,888 (Peninsula Malaysia, excluding insurance) which RM19,000 lower than the former.

"We have received a significant number of interest from customers on the new Elantra and also a preference for lower pricing. As with all fully imported cars, the exchange rate is one of the determining factor for the price of the car," said HSDM managing director Low Yuan Lung.

"The Elantra is a complete built-up unit that is fully-imported from Korea, therefore the exchange rate does affect how we price he car. Having said that, we would still like to make the Elantra accessible to all our customers with the introduction of this new variant," he added.

Despite its pricing it still has most of the features of the Premium variant, which also includes the following SmartSense features: Blind Spot-Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic - Collision Warning, Safe Exit Warning, and Rear Occupant Alert.

It also continues to exude Hyundai's Sensuous Sportiness design concept of geometric crystals cut, lined patterns and divided body surfaces resulting in colourful 'Parametric Dynamics'.

Space is the Executive's biggest advantage over the Premium, as it has a longer wheelbase that provides a best-in-class 964mm of rear legroom. Its wider track width also means improved shoulder room in the front and rear. It has over 474 litres of boot space and 60/40 split folding rear seats.

The car's headroom is also not compromised despite a sleeker roofline compared to its predecessor - boasting 1030mm of front headroom and 947mm of rear headroom.

Standard safety features include 6 airbags, the Electronic Stability Control, Antilock Braking System, Downhill Brake Control, Hill-start Assist Control, Brake Assist System, Traction Control System, Vehicle Stability Management and Immobiliser.

The new entry level variant comes with Black Fabric Seat, Manual Seat Adjustment, 4.2-inch TFT LCD Cluster, and a Day and Night Rear View Mirror.

It is built on a new vehicle platform as well as an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT) that is mated with a Smartstream G1.6 petrol engine that's capable of producing 123PS at 6,300rpm and a peak torque of 154Nm at 4,500rpm. There's four drive modes to choose from: Smart, Comfort, Eco and Sport.
