#TECH: Nazir Razak stints as e-hailing driver, now he wants more

SINCE its launching, barely a month ago, e-hailing service provider, airasia ride has received over 5,000 driver applications from all walks of life, including one from Datuk Sri Nazir Razak himself, who recently went behind the wheels himself to understand what it is like to be in the shoes of an e-hailing driver for one day.

So, on Aug 31, 2021, as the rest of the country celebrates independence day, Nazir sets out on a mission to drive as many passengers as he could in four hours by being an airasia ride driver.

In the almost nine-minute video released on airasia Super App's YouTube channel, Nazir chatted with fellow Malaysians about Merdeka, Malaysia, he also shared some financial tips as well as his father's dreams for the country and the reality of today.

Reflecting on his Merdeka day stint as an airasia ride driver, Nazir shared how much he earned within the four hours he spent as ride driver and how he enjoyed the time especially as he gets to meet new people.

"I had a really good time, and worked for over four hours and earned RM67 without any tips, so if I really put my back into it I could probably make between RM200 to RM250 a day, which is a pretty good living. There were many customers and many interesting conversations and I enjoyed meeting new people."

Those interested in becoming an airasia ride driver can register by downloading the airasia ride driver app.

Apart from the Klang Valley, airasia ride has expanded to Langkawi, which started on Malaysia day, on Sept 16, 2021 and plans to launch their service to other cities across Malaysia soon.

"If I have free time, I'd be happy to ask Tony to let me drive again to possibly experience the earnings and tips for good service and a good conversation," said Nazir adding that he wouldn't mind getting the proper license as required for e-hailing drivers for the full experience.

Watch the video and enjoy snippets of Nazir's stint as an e-hailing driver and also catch AirAsia Group's very own executive chairman, Datuk Kamarudin Meranun, who also managed to book Nazir as a driver for his ride home.
