#TECH: Acer releases new updates at CES 2022

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: In conjunction with CES 2022 happening in Las Vegas, Acer announced updates and refreshes to its laptops and desktops with the latest Intel and AMD processors as well as introduced new monitors.

ALL-IN-ONE DESKTOPS

Acer announced a pair of additions to its thin, light and powerful lineup of Swift X laptops with discrete GPUs, consisting of a new 14-inch and 16-inch model as well as new Aspire C27 and C24 All-in-One (AIO) PCs.

The ultra-portable laptop Swift X (SFX14-51G) 14-inch laptop, weighs just 1.4 kg in 17.9 mm thin aluminium chassis while the 16-inch model (SFX16-52G) features discrete Intel Arc graphics with dual fans, dual copper heat pipes, an air inlet keyboard, and a bigger side exhaust port.

Both models run on Windows 11 and feature a 16:10 aspect-ratio IPS screen—2240x1400 for the 14-in model and up to 2560x1600 (WQXGA) for the 16-in model—with narrow bezels, allowing for up to a 92.22 per cent screen-to-body ratio.

The new Swift X models combine Intel Wi-Fi 6E (802.11ax) for fast and stable connectivity—perfect for high-speed file sharing and smooth 4k streaming. From there, the laptops' I/O includes two Type-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 (up to 40 GBs) support, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, HDMI 2.0, and a fingerprint reader for easy login with Windows Hello.

They also feature Acer BluelightShield for comfortable viewing, Acer ExaColor and Acer Color Intelligence for vibrant colours display.

The productivity capacity of both models is further enhanced by an FHD webcam with Acer's Temporal Noise Reduction (TNR) technology for high-quality imagery even in low-light conditions, Acer PurifiedVoice with AI Noise Reduction for clearer com-calls, and DTS audio.

For enhanced performance when working from home, the Aspire C27 (27-inch, C27-1751) and C24 (24-inch, C24-1750) AIO PCs have been refreshed with Windows 11 and the latest NVIDIA GeForce MX550 GPU as well as 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, plus a 1 TB SSD and 2 TB HDD.

The PCs are also equipped with Wi-Fi 6E for fast and stable connectivity, Bluetooth 5.2 for simplified data-sharing between devices, and Thunderbolt 4 for up to 40 Gbps of bidirectional bandwidth.

Video calling has never been more important, and the Aspire C27 responds to this need with a 5.0 MP webcam and two stereo microphones for high-quality video conferencing. It can also be tilted (-5 to 25 degree), allowing users to find the perfect angle before getting started.

As a final touch, this ultra-slim AIO delivers tidy and space-saving cable management in black with platinum details.

All of the new PCs feature the latest 12th Gen Intel CoreTM processors.

GAMING LAPTOPS

Acer also announced refreshes across its lines of Predator and Nitro gaming laptops.

"Our most popular gaming laptops have been updated with the latest silicon announced at CES. Combine that with state-of-the-art cooling technology and high-refresh rate displays and you get exciting laptops that even the most demanding of players will love," said Acer Inc general manager for Notebooks, IT products Business, James Lin.

The Predator Triton 500 SE (PT516-52s) is a "special edition" laptop for gaming and work. On the inside, up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i9 processor, an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Laptop GPU and 32 GB of 5200 MHz LPDDR5 memory dish out the extreme performance necessary for the latest games. On the outside, it's all-metal spartan-styled aesthetics let it blend perfectly into the workplace or lecture hall. Just 19.9 mm at its thinnest point, the laptop can go wherever users do, while up to 2TB of high-speed PCIe Gen4 storage offers plenty of space for games and files.

The Predator Helios 300 (PH315-55) is a powerful gaming laptop equipped with a host of top-tier hardware: Up to a 12th Gen Intel Core i7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Laptop GPU or NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU, 32 GB of DDR5-4800 MHz memory and up to 2 TB of PCIe Gen4 SSD RAID 0 storage.

This hardware muscle powers up to a 15.6-inch QHD display with a 165 Hz refresh rate in a revamped, cleaner chassis.

A dual-fan layout that includes one 5th Gen AeroBlade 3D fan helps keep the system running cool, further supported by liquid metal thermal grease and Acer's CoolBoost technology.

Upping the cool factor, the laptop's mini-LED backlit keyboard features per-key RGB.

Running Windows 11, the laptop comes with Killer DoubleShot Pro (E2600+1675i) and WiFi 6E connectivity in addition to a healthy range of ports, including an HDMI 2.1 for connecting to external monitors or consoles, a ThunderboltTM Type-C port, and two USB 3.2 Gen2 ports, one of which allows users to charge a mobile device even if the laptop is turned off.

Also available in 17.3-inch model (PH317-56) with an IPS panel (QHD 165 Hz or FHD 165 Hz / 144 Hz).

The Acer Nitro 5 is a gaming laptop that gives players everything they need to explore and enjoy the latest titles. Featuring a pair of M.2 SSD slots (PCIe Gen 4) for massive storage, the laptop also features up to 32 GB of DDR4 3200 RAM offering players plenty of breathing room to handle multiple applications at once.

For further control, Killer Ethernet E2600 and Intel Killer Wi-Fi 6 AX1650i lets players make their network prioritise game traffic for even faster connectivity when every second counts.

The Acer Nitro 5 can also be equipped with up to an AMD Ryzen 6000

Series processor (AN515-46) and up to an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU, plus up to 32 GB of the latest-generation DDR5 4800 MHz RAM. This generation of the Nitro 5 comes with two options, an FHD 144 Hz panel or a 165 Hz QHD Panel, both taking advantage of AMD FreeSync technology to offer smooth gameplay without screen tearing.

REFRESHED PREDATOR SERIES

In the same announcement, Acer also unveiled its refreshed Predator Orion 5000 series gaming desktops, new mid-range Predator Orion 3000 series gaming desktops, an OLED Predator monitor, and an additional pair of IPS monitors that combine VESA DisplayHDR 1000-level visuals with high refresh rates.

Acer also announced that its Predator X32 has earned a CES Innovation Award in the "Computer Peripherals & Accessories" category.

The Predator Orion 5000 features Windows 11, 64 GB of 4,000 MHz DDR5 RAM and up to 2 TB of M.2 PCIe 4.0 SSDs, ARGB-infused Predator FrostBlade 2.0 fans support these powerful internals, keeping the system cool housed within an obsidian-hued chassis made of darkened glass and metal mesh. DIY enthusiasts will appreciate the chassis' tool-less design that allows for easy access to the computer's internals—such as to upgrade the CPUs' air cooler to up to a 240 mm

liquid cooler—and also its flexible configuration options that maximise future upgradability.

The Predator Orion 3000 Series too features the same attractive design as the Orion 5000, wreathed in darkened glass, plastic, metal and mesh, with an optional transparent EMI-compliant side panel. Additionally, the hub of the front and rear fans have RGB LEDs built directly onto them, the lighting of which can be controlled via the PredatorSense software.

The Predator Orion 3000 comes with Windows 11 out of the box.

The new Predator X32 and X32 FP gaming monitors have been carefully engineered to balance the performance gamers expect with the visual brilliance creators need. Featuring 160 Hz and 165 Hz (overclocked) refresh rates, respectfully, both of these UHD (3,840x2,160) 32-inch

monitors also boast VESA DisplayHDR 1000 certifications, IPS panels that support 576-zone miniLED local dimming, Delta E

The Predator X32 leverages the exceptional performance of NVIDIA G-SYNC Ultimate to deliver lifelike HDR and ultra-low latency, while the Predator X32 FP comes with an HDMI 2.1 port, meaning that players can enjoy 4K gaming not only on PC but also on console.

Big enough to be a TV replacement, the Predator CG48 gaming monitor offers players 48 inches of pure 4K glory. Its OLED display leverages a 135K:1 contrast ratio, HDR10 and 98 per cent coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut in order to offer one of the most stunning visual experiences currently possible.
