#TECH: TikTok offers platform to help small businesses move forward

KUALA LUMPUR: From an entertaining social media platform, TikTok can also be used as a tool for businesses.

TikTok, through TikTok Shop, recently showed how local brands can stand out via the platform during its Micro-Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Day.

The company said TikTok Shop has helped all SMEs to expand their growth and get a larger customer base through shoppable videos and live streaming.

BOOSTING SME GROWTH

One of the TikTok Shop stories of growth is Zucca, a ladies' wear brand that saw an increased Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) of RM200,000 from the previous campaign.

Zucca's co-founder, Gary Ng shared that TikTok Shop managed to ease the customers' buying process and benefited small companies like theirs.

"We do not need to incur many costs as we can use our mobile phones to live stream without any hassle. Registering to become a seller is also an easy process without restrictions - one only needs to meet the requirements set by TikTok Shop and can begin selling without too much fuss. Through TikTok Shop, we can interact with our customers and receive direct feedback from them so we can identify their needs. Therefore, we are able to solve their problems immediately - we appreciate tapping on this platform and look forward to growing more with TikTok Shop," he said.

Meanwhile, Gdeal, a company that sells fashion and household items saw a 2000 per cent GMV increase in May 2022, after joining their seller campaign for two months.

Gdeal director, Tim Teoh said through constant exploration and experimentation, they grew their audience base to 66,000 followers.

"At the beginning of the live broadcast, the response was not as expected but we did not give up and kept trying. With more live broadcasts, our fan base also began to increase. When fans have confidence in our shop, our sales also start to grow. The TikTok Shop system is stable too and makes our operation smooth - our customers also love TikTok Shop vouchers," he said.

Moreover, Treeskin Beauty's chief executive officer, Ben Wing saw vast growth in the beauty segment on TikTok Shop and was supported by the TikTok Shop team to reach more than RM100,000 in sales in the first month.

"It took only 12 days for live broadcast sales to increase by 932 per cent. With more short videos and live streams, Treeskin Beauty was able to hit our sales peaks on TikTok Shop. TikTok Shop has a very comprehensive system, which includes account managers to support merchants and TikTok Shop Partners (TSP) to help. I believe that in TikTok Shop, even if you are just a novice, as long as you persevere, you will be able to achieve success," he said.

Meanwhile, TikTok Malaysia's strategy operations manager, Darren Quel said TikTok plans on building a positive and trustable shopping environment.

"It is important to us that users can shop with confidence and TikTok is committed to protecting the safety of all users - be it consumers, creators, sellers, and other TikTok Shop partners. All products offered must adhere to guidelines set by TikTok Shop so we are able to provide a secure and enjoyable experience for all," he said.
