#TECH: Equipping local fashion SMEs with digital skills

REALISING the need to embrace the fashion industry as part of digitalising local SMEs and start-ups, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec) has announced its Top 16 candidates for their first-ever Selangor Fashion Accelerator 2022 in an opening ceremony graced by Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad, spouse of Menteri Besar Selangor and president of Selangor Women's Welfare and Charity Organisation(Pekawanis).

Serving as a platform to spearhead the digital transformation of Selangor as Asean's digital hub, Sidec said it always has its community in mind to ensure they are provided with proper training materials and exposure to prosper their businesses.

The two-month intensive programme seeks to help Malaysian start-ups and SMEs create a sustainable ecosystem for talents in the modest fashion sector by offering engaging experiences that will raise brand awareness in the marketplace and industry which will include specially curated workshops and mentoring sessions led by renowned fashion industry professionals.

Additionally, the programme also gained major support from Malaysia's well-known music icon and businesswoman, Datyk Sri Siti Nurhaliza and other notable fashion entrepreneurs like Rasta Rashid, Leslie Variyan and Wong Lee Leng.

"Since there aren't many accelerator programmes exclusively for the fashion industry, Sidec is stepping up to support emerging fashion businesses in growing their revenue and investment prospects. Giving business owners a chance and platform to share their ideas and creativity is a component that motivates these entrepreneurs to be bold and confident about what they want to explore and present," said Sidec CEO, Yong Kai Ping.

Conducted via a hybrid class style (online and offline), the programme covers modules such as pitching fundamental skill, product-market-fit, brand identity or brand DNA, innovation of textile, fundraising sharing session and IP/trademark.
