#TECH: A stunning and feature-packed smartwatch

I HAVE never encountered a smartwatch that is as beautiful as the new Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro, which is the company's 2022 flagship wearable.

After a couple of weeks of trying it on, here are my thoughts about it.

A PRETTY DESIGN

The dashing Huawei GT 3 Pro has a modern and elegant accent to it that's hard for you to peer your eyes away from.

The Ceramic unit has a case size of 42.9mm with silver bezels encasing it and is matched with a white leather strap to keep it in place. But it is also available in a white ceramic strap.

It weighs only 50 grams, so it didn't really feel bulky on my slender wrist, but I do see it peek out of my long sleeves or cuffs whenever I wear it for work. Clearly making a bold statement that it's there to be noticed.

The watch case is made out of Nanocrystalline Ceramic and it has a 1.32-inch AMOLED screen made out of the sapphire glass on top that's practically harsh scuff and scratch-resistant.

At the sides, it has a rotating crown that brings you to the suite of apps the GT 3 Pro has to offer and fixes the size of the icons as you scroll it. Meanwhile, the pusher at the bottom immediately takes you to the workout modes.

Both the crown and pusher are made out of silver but everything else is in pure white colour that sums up the monochromatic aesthetic. This makes it look stylish and classy for every outfit you could think of, apart from sports attire.

STUNNING DISPLAY

The Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display that supports slide and touch gestures.

Given its 466x 466 resolution, it's bright enough despite the challenging Malaysian sun, so there's no need to alter the brightness in every outdoor or indoor setting.

As for the watch faces, I was worried Huawei might've come up with ridiculous designs that wouldn't fit the elegant ambiance the smartwatch emits. But they proved me wrong with graceful designs like Dream Aurora, M.Phantom White, Dream Black, or M.Mystery Storm.

If you don't feel like paying up for pretty watch faces, just go for the classic Stellar, Clouds, Pearly White, White Rose, and Sea that are just as pretty.

You can go through myriads of them through the Huawei Health App with other features for your daily needs.

GREAT PERFORMANCE

Featuring the Harmony OS, the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro is reminiscent of its predecessors with a little addition to the pile.

Aside from the normal accelerator sensor, gyroscope sensor, magnetometer sensor, optical heart rate sensor, barometer sensor, and temperature sensor, it also features a dual-band five-system positioning that's great for when you're in the woods and GPS-ing.

The smartwatch also features over 100 workout modes entailing Open Water Swim, Diving, Driving Range, Skipping, Mountain Hike, Skiing, Snowboarding, Triathlon, Cross Trainer, Rower, and many more.

I was accustomed to common sports collections other smartwatches have provided, so it's good to have an eclectic number of them added for a change.

But my favourite inclusion is the Free Dive mode that would record up to 30m depth for avid divers out there. This makes the Huawei Watch GT 3 waterproof with IP68 and 5ATM rating.

Since I'm not a diver, it's pretty hard to prove Huawei's claims so we'll just trust them on this one. But a simple splash and light swimming didn't seem to affect its performance.

FITNESS AND HEALTH

The good news is that the fitness app works great.

I tried out indoor running and indoor cycling and the delay between the workout machines and the watch is just a smidge.

The Huawei app also includes basic running plans like the Easy Runs, High-intensity interval training (HIIT) run, 10K, aerobic endurance run, and more.

Your data exercises can be viewed on the Health app from distance, duration, calories, cadence, training stress, etc.

For health, Huawei has included new sensors for ECG analysis, SpO2 monitoring, sleep tracking, and a Healthy Living feature too.

Since we're so busy with our work and lives, it's good to have a device that reminds us to drink water regularly, keep track of our sleep, smile and breathe, and stay active every day.

Of course, you can always edit it to your liking if you can't keep up.

Also, you can measure your skin temperature, read your cycle calendar, check your heart rate and SpO2 levels and more to check on your health and track your data.

BATTERY

Huawei claims that the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro Ceramic version's battery could last for about 7 days for typical usage and up to 4 for heavy usage.

Based on my testing, I got 4 days for 3 working out days, hours of music playtime, heart rate monitoring enabled, notifications, sleep tracking, stress tracking, SpO2, and wasting its battery away at any chance I get.

It's a good number considering that I use it at times when I go to the office or only when I go out for soirées, but if you're expecting a longer battery life, I suggest you go for the sportier ones.

Plus, you can charge it in 15 minutes if you're expecting it to perform at moderate usage. Or else, just wait for an hour and a half to get it fully charged.

VERDICT

Although the Huawei Watch GT 3 Pro in Ceramic is an eye-catching watch, it is a tad pricey.

At RM2,399, it is available in Ceramic (White Ceramic Strap, White Leather Strap) and Titanium editions (Black Fluoroelastomer Strap, Grey Leather Strap) depending on your preference.

It's time to invest in a smartwatch, grab them at discounted prices with Shopee Voucher.
