#TECH: CIMB announces early release of Octo app

KUALA LUMPUR: CIMB Bank Berhad and CIMB Islamic Bank Berhad have announced the early release of its latest mobile application – CIMB Octo App – which is designed to deliver new features and personalisation for over its current eight million customers nationwide.

To be rolled out in phases, CIMB said that each successive release will take on customers' feedback before the app's full release, which is expected to be offering the full suites and features in the first half of 2023.

On a side note, CIMB, in response to the availability of the Apple Pay mobile payment service said that it is currently working on supporting the payment system for its customers, but expects it only later next year. The bank currently supports another mobile payment service, Samsung Pay for its cards.

In the meantime, its current mobile app – CIMB Clicks – will continue to be available concurrently to complement the Octo app to ensure customers continue to have the option and flexibility of accessing banking services as required on either digital platform.

CIMB's CEO for group consumer banking, Samir Gupta at the unveiling event held near here said that the new CIMB Octo app reflects the bank's focus on delivering solutions that are timely and relevant to the accelerated shift towards digital transactions, and more specifically mobile banking.

"It is a response to the changing behaviours of customers in Malaysia, providing a broader range of personalised banking solutions to meet their current and future needs, preferences and lifestyles," he said, adding that the features on boarded to the new app are inspired by the feedback the bank received from its customers over the past couple of years, when internet and mobile banking boomed.

Stressing on personalisation, CIMB affirmed that the new app offers greater flexibility, agility and speed thanks to its new technology stack and operational infrastructure for stability and security.

"We have designed the new app with a refreshed interface and enhancements that embody the collaborative approach and personalisation. [...] The new app also provides CIMB with greater flexibility, agility and speed to market in deploying platform expansions such as capacity upgrades or new features in response to future customer needs and traffic growth."

The CIMB Octo app is now available for download from the Apple App Store, Google Play Store as well as Huawei AppGallery.
