#TECH: A huge "green" initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: Touch 'n Go eWallet has joined Yayasan Hijau Malaysia to launch the Mission GreenPossible: 100 Million Trees by 2025 campaign in Glasshouse at Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur.

The event was officiated by the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia's director general, Datuk Indera Mohd Ridza Awang, TNG Digital Sdn Bhd chief executive officer, Alan Ni, and Yayasan Hijau Malaysia chief executive officer, Amin Abdullah.

Under the purview of the Forestry Department of Peninsular Malaysia, the campaign aims to contribute to environmental conservation via Yayasan Hijau's efforts.

Through this, users can donate to the cause by using the Tough 'n Go eWallet app.

The donation will contribute to the growth of a virtual tree that can be viewed on the campaign's microsite (app or web).

Yayasan Hijau Malaysia will plant a batch of actual trees for every 100 per cent grown virtual tree.

Upon planting, the virtual tree will restart for users to grow more virtual trees.

Touch 'n Go Group will donate to the Malaysian public to ensure a greener Malaysia.

The company said it is taking measures to achieve neutral carbon status by 2050 whilst supporting the preservation and capture of carbon in established carbon sinks via reforestation, mangrove restoration, and preservation of ecosystems.

"This campaign not only benefits Touch 'n Go Group's sustainability goals but also helps to address the need for us, as a business, to empower Malaysians with the knowledge and actions which facilitate efforts to achieve a cleaner, greener planet for our future generations. This collaboration with Yayasan Hijau Malaysia is indeed meaningful as we see our company as part of the sustainability ecosystem, and we have a part to play in ensuring that Mother Earth continues to grow healthily. We encourage all our users to contribute and experience growing a virtual tree through the Touch 'n Go eWallet app today," Ni said.

Amin, meanwhile, said he believes in adopting a holistic approach where the government, NGOs, and private sector need to establish strong cooperation in ensuring the success of The National 100 Million Tree Planting Campaign.

"I strongly believe that the Touch 'n Go Group will remain committed to fulfilling their social responsibilities by utilising innovative strength to achieve the well-being of society, the environment, and ultimately, the world. This translates into efforts towards conserving the country's biodiversity while improving the quality of the natural environment, all of which would help address the broader issue of climate change. Private companies should come forward to be equally involved in the success of the programme as the call for the preservation of the environment remains a shared responsibility by members of society in achieving the national objective of reducing Carbon Footprint and achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050," he added.
