#TECH: TheNoor to facilitate digital alms initiative in Indonesia

THENoor (Noor Luminous Sdn Bhd) has joined forces with five prominent Indonesian non-governmental organisations (NGOs), Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika, Yayasan Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia, Yayasan Panti Yatim Indonesia Al-Fajr, Yayasan Asar Humanity and Yayasan Rumah Zakat Indonesia.

The partnership aims to facilitate the digital charitable payments of Zakat, Wakaf, Infaq and Shadaqah through TheNoor mobile application.

As part of the agreement, the new partners hope to encourage more Indonesians to perform their ascribed charitable duties through a more holistic and integrated approach.

TheNoor said it will facilitate the online collection of charitable payments on behalf of the 5 partners and ensure proper distribution to them.

TheNoor co-founder and chief executive officer, Mohd Izzairi Yamin said that TheNoor hopes to enable more Muslims around the world to achieve their almsgiving commitments through technology, transforming and amplifying their engagement with Islam.

"Contributions to the less fortunate is a duty incumbent on every Muslim. It is seen as social solidarity and is a form of purification that allows us to express our gratitude for all the blessings we have been bestowed. TheNoor wants to help simplify how Muslims fulfil these charitable duties through TheNoor app. With a touch of a finger, the app provides the Muslim community with the opportunity to calculate their charitable payments and complete donations," he said.

"This is why we are elated and honoured to be in collaboration with Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika, Yayasan Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia, Yayasan Panti Yatim Indonesia Al-Fajr, Yayasan Asar Humanity and Yayasan Rumah Zakat Indonesia. With the holy month of Ramadan just around the corner, these partnerships could not be any more timely. TheNoor app will come in handy so that more Indonesian Muslims can make their charitable contributions from anywhere and at any time," he added.

The partnerships with Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika, Yayasan Inisiatif Zakat Indonesia, Yayasan Panti Yatim Indonesia Al-Fajr, Yayasan Asar Humanity and Yayasan Rumah Zakat Indonesia mark TheNoor's footprint in the Indonesian market and are part of their ongoing global expansion plans. In line with its strategy to capitalise on a fast-growing market, TheNoor's expansion solidifies the achievement of its first milestone on its growth pipeline which comes after its successful fundraising round that closed in October 2022.

Etika Setiawanti, director of resources mobilisation of Yayasan Dompet Dhuafa Republika said: "The number of smartphone users in Indonesia is expected to reach 269 million by 2028. With more and more people turning to digitised solutions through mobile applications for enhanced security, speed and convenience, TheNoor will definitely simplify almsgiving for Indonesians especially with the calculation tool so they are rest assured that they are paying the correct amount in accordance with Indonesian Islamic laws."

Meanwhile, Didi Sabir, chief marketing officer of Yayasan Rumah Zakat Indonesia said: "Performing charitable contributions does require quite a bit of effort as donors would need to visit donation collection centres on almost a monthly basis to make their donations. With TheNoor, the entire process can be accomplished in under a minute. This makes donating so much more convenient, encourages more donors and donations, and increases our financial resources so we can help even more who are in need, thus increasing our impact."
