#TECH: AWS to launch infrastructure Region in Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: Amazon Web Services (AWS) announced plans to launch an AWS infrastructure Region in Malaysia by 2037 as part of its RM25.5 investment in the country. The announcement was made during its Cloud Day held here.

"With AWS Region plan investment in Malaysia, we look forward to scale the effort to break Malaysia's digital skills divide by working more closely with the government, with our customers and local partners to unlock more opportunities to accelerate Malaysian digitalisation in order to spur economic growth, national competitiveness, and upgrade the quality of lives for Malaysians," said AWS Malaysia head of enterprise business, Azhar Abdullah in his address at the event.

At launch, the new AWS Region will have three Availability Zones, which will be in addition to the 99 Availability Zones that are already spread across 31 different regions worldwide. With the new infrastructure, local users can run applications locally as well as serve end users from data centres located throughout the country.

Customers with data residency preferences will be able to store data securely in Malaysia, achieve even lower latency, and serve demand for cloud services across Southeast Asia thanks to the new AWS Region.

Other than Malaysia, AWS has plans to launch more Availability Zones and AWS Regions including Canada, New Zealand, and Thailand.
