Consumer product giant Unilever has joined the clean and sustainable beauty segment with its new brand Love, Beauty & Planet that's now available at Watsons.
Unilever's global website says the brand is "committed to ethically-sourced fragrance, ingredients and 100 per cent recycled bottles for its shampoos".
"Whether it's coconut oil from the Philippines or murumuru butter from the Amazon basin, we ethically source fragrance ingredients that go into our formulas. More than that, we also make sure those indulgent, fragrant shampoos are packaged in bottles that use 100 per cent recycled plastic," it says.
The move comes as more skin and body care brands ditch conventional, cheap ingredients that are, at best, suspect and, at worst, carcinogenic, in favour of those that are not proven harmful to the skin. People like Tiffany Masterson, who founded skincare brand Drunk Elephant, and Holly Thaggard, who started Supergoop!, have helped started a discourse to get brands to formulate better ingredients for both humans and nature.
For Love, Beauty & Planet, the move in this direction is a #SmallActsOfLove that the brand says has the power to make a huge impact on beauty and the planet. The brand's portfolio is designed across different products within hair care, skin cleansing and skincare. The products, it says, contain no parabens, silicones, dyes or phthalates, and use 90 per cent or more naturally derived formulas.
The variants available in the country are Coconut Water and Mimosa Flower, designed to make skin soft and to keep hair strong and full of bounce. For coloured hair, there's a range made with murumuru butter and rose. For oily scalp, there's a range that uses tea tree oil and the Argan Oil. The Lavender range helps smooth and tame frizzy hair, all with a pampering fragrance. Each range is available in shampoo, conditioner, body wash and body lotion.
