#Showbiz: SRK and Kajol statue to be erected in London's Leicester Square

KUALA LUMPUR: Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol will be immortalised in a bronze statue depicting a scene from their blockbuster film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge in London's Scenes in the Square.

According to Times Of India, the announcement was made recently by the Heart of London Business Alliance which revealed that a figurine of the two leads would be unveiled at the film attraction in Leicester Square.

The Bollywood film statue will be the first ever one put up in the UK and it is expected to happen sometime in the Spring of next year.

The sculpture will be the latest addition to the Scenes in the Square film trail featuring cinematic moments that includes installations of Harry Potter, Laurel and Hardy, Gene Kelly from Singin' in the Rain and Wonder Woman.

The announcement comes in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the release of Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.

Directed by Aditya Chopra, the romance film has become one of the most successful Indian films in history and is also one of the longest-running Indian films in cinemas.

Apparently, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol had previously hosted an event in conjunction with the film's 20th anniversary celebrations at the Maratha Mandir cinema in Mumbai, where the film has been screening for over two decades.

The story revolves around two young non-resident Indians who fall in love during a vacation with friends around Europe.

The 1995 classic, which was filmed in India, London and Switzerland, cemented the successful onscreen pairing of the two stars.

They also starred together in a slew of films such as Baazigar, Karan Arjun, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhie Khushi Kabhi Gham and My Name Is Khan.
