#Showbiz: Msian girl group Dolla attracts Korean K-Pop media

KUALA LUMPUR: Local pop girl group Dolla has recently attracted the attention of foreign media especially from South Korea after being compared to red hot K-Pop music outfit BlackPink.

Dolla, signed to Universal Music Malaysia, comprises of Sabrina, Tabby, Angel and Syasya, and has been gaining popularity with its song, Make You Wanna.

Grateful for the attention, Sabrina said that they saw it as a chance to gain wider exposure.

"These reports did not brand Dolla in a bad light and the comparisons to BlackPink have already been highlighted before.

"Additionally, the comments and criticism that we got from foreign viewers of our music videos were not that bad with many giving positive support," she said in a news report yesterday.

The young idol added that Netizens had already been talking about the similarities between Dolla and BlackPink since the group released its debut single Make You Wanna in March.

She didn't think that it would still be a hotly debated topic at this time.

"Whatever the case, the unexpected popularity that Dolla has managed to gain now is timely as we are going to release our second single, Impikan, on Friday.

"The attention from the overseas media and viewers also makes it the right time. It will give them the opportunity to evaluate the real concept behind Dolla's music," she said.

Sabrina also expressed their gratitude to Dolla's fans who had shared the latest articles on the group by various media outlets that included those from Singapore and Indonesia.

Netizens had started talking about Dolla after an article highlighting similarities with international sensation BlackPink was recently featured on popular K-Pop news site Allkpop.

The article, which referenced a local news piece on the issue, managed to indirectly capture the attention of South Korean readers including many BlackPink fans dubbed Blinks.

As a result, Dolla started trending on Twitter. The group's music video for Make You Wanna has so far garnered over 2.2 million views on YouTube.
