#Showbiz: Ning Baizura promotes Covid-19 awareness with 'No Corona'

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular R&B singer Ning Baizura is doing her part to help Malaysians stay safe from Covid-19 with a new tune, No Corona.

The catchy song, written and composed by Malaysian-based Singaporean singer-songwriter Awi Rafael, also features the vocals of Mimi Norhisham or Mimifly of One Nation Emcees fame, singer-actress Tiz Zaqyah, Awi and his proteges Mya Herry, Purnama and Nayli Azmi.

"We recorded No Corona shortly before the lockdown. Both Awi and Mimi worked together on the music and lyrics," said Ning.

"All of us recorded the song within three hours, at Awi's studio in town, and it was our special project to remind Malaysians to take the Covid-19 threat seriously by staying at home, observing social distancing, and always sanitising our hands."

Ning described No Corona as a "spur of the moment" song which they felt was "the right thing to do".

"No Corona is my first song about the raging Covid-19 pandemic, and my second with Awi and the Newsantara artistes."

Ning added that No Corona, which comes with simple sing-along music video, has had 52,000 views on YouTube.

The song combines traditional Malay and Bollywood sounds with hip-hop courtesy of Mimi and Awi, and R&B courtesy of Ning.

"No Corona reminds Malaysians to cherish our loved ones and friends, and keep ourselves and others safe and healthy by observing the SOP at all times.

"It also encourages us to think positively and reminds us that we have overcome many challenges as a nation, and we will succeed against Covid-19," said Ning.
