#Showbiz: 'We Are One', patriotic song to lift nation's spirits

KUALA LUMPUR: A patriotic tune titled We Are One has been released in conjunction with Malaysia's 64th Merdeka anniversary.

The song is hoped to help lift the spirits of Malaysians as they combat the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

Performed in three languages by 15 singers, the multi-racial line-up includes Iman Troye, Jack Lim, Han Xiiao Aii, Ariff Bahran, Priscilla Abby, Yise Loo and Firdhaus.

Others are Juztin Lan, Layla Sania, Pauline Tan, Henley Hii, Jie Ying, Daphne Low, Ztish El Nino and Nadia Pang.

Produced by the Multimedia Group, the song is composed by film director Teng Bee, who also penned the lyrics.

In a press statement today, Teng said that the state of the local film industry which had been severely affected by the pandemic had prompted him to come up with We Are One.

"When I became a volunteer during Multimedia's food aid programme to help my peers in the industry, I see the distress and sadness in their faces.

"And it is only through unity can all of us rise up to the challenging times," he said.

Meanwhile, Multimedia Group's managing director Datuk Steven Lim Boon Siong said We Are One was inspired by the company's own independent corporate social responsibility programme, which had delivered food support and daily necessities to crew members of local productions affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

"The pandemic has been a challenging time for all of us. Only through unity will we be able to get through it.

"This song is calling for everyone to come together in the face of adversity," he said.
