#Showbiz: Siti breathes new life to Sudirman's patriotic songs

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's top singer Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza Tarudin has come out with new renditions for two classic patriotic numbers sung by the late Datuk Sudirman Arshad in conjunction with the Merdeka celebration yesterday.

The performance of these two evergreen tracks, Warisan and Tanggal 31, are currently available online via her official YouTube channel.

"These are patriotic songs that I love and have sung before in concerts and performances during Merdeka Day celebrations.

"I hope that this effort will inspire the younger generation to appreciate and treasure these classic patriotic works, in addition to having more songs featuring this concept during the pandemic era.

"Moreover, I have not sung for a long time now since giving birth to my second child, Muhammad Afwa Khalid.

So these two songs have served as a balm to fans who have not heard me perform for a while," she said in a news report yesterday.

The award-winning artiste added that she was able to record her vocals from home before the audio files were transferred to producer Pown Hasril who completed the tracks.

"I'd like to thank Pown Hasril, the musicians and Rasa Film for making this project that involved audio and visual aspects a success during Phase One of the National Recovery Plan (NRP)," she said.

The Aku Bidadari Syurgamu hitmaker added that she was able to contribute ideas to the arrangements of the beloved songs.

"The concept for Warisan took inspiration from Queen's We Are The Champions which was meant to raise the patriotic spirits of listeners.

"For Tanggal 31, it follows a joget rhythm which I wanted since this is a traditional element that reflects the image of Malaysia," she said.
