#Showbiz: FFM 31 gala night set for Dec 10

KUALA LUMPUR: After several postponements, the 31st Malaysian Film Festival (FFM 31) will finally be held on Dec 10.

The National Film Development Corporation (Finas) chairman said that the event would be organised with strict adherence to the standard operating procedures (SOP) to minimise risk of the spread of Covid-19.

"We had to scrap the initial plan of doing it at the end of this month. Since we wanted to have a bigger event, we needed more time for the planning.

"We hope the event will be attended by more arts practitioners, which include those who made to the finalist list as well as representatives from associations and non-governmental organisations," he said.

He added that there would be two main events — the opening ceremony will be held a week ahead of the awards night.

"At the opening ceremony, we will announce the finalists for the 22 categories," said Zakaria, adding that a new design for the trophies would also be revealed.

"Since we haven't been able to organise FFM for the past two years, we plan to ensure this time around, it will be more meaningful.

"In the week leading up to the awards night, we hope to screen all the movies competing this time around on selected platform.

"We also plan to organise film seminars during that week," he said.

A total of 90 movies produced between 2018 and 2020 have been selected for nominations, with 55 already been selected for the second round of selection process for the finalists.
