#Showbiz: MBO Cinemas reopening this weekend

KUALA LUMPUR: MBO Cinemas will be resuming operations after completely shuttering all of its outlets in Malaysia late last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a recent statement from the cinema chain, new investors have been obtained and the company would be reopening under a new management.

"We are really excited to bring MBO Cinemas back to where it belongs and our priority is to continue providing the wholesome cinematic experience for which the brand was known for.

"We can assure the loyal fans of MBO Cinemas that we are returning with renewed vigour and enthusiasm while retaining all of the iconic offerings MBO used to bring for the moviegoers.

"We also recognise MBO's large followings and we are working to address our loyal fans in the near future," MBO Cinemas MD Karthiik Doraisingam said in the statement.

The MBO Cinemas outlet at Atria Shopping Gallery, Damansara, will be the first one to reopen with some of the other branches to follow suit in a gradual manner.

Karthiik added: "We plan to reopen MBO Cinemas at Atria Shopping Gallery on Dec 29 and this will be followed by a few other outlets in the pipeline, including Elements Mall Melaka, Taiping Sentral Mall, Teluk Intan, Brem Mall, Space U8 and U-Mall Skudai.

"The management is also currently in talks with a prominent local property developer to open a new outlet next year," he said.

The Atria Shopping Gallery cinema branch features four standard screens and four other special screens, namely two MBO Kecil halls, one Big Screen and one Samsung Onyx.

It also houses a unique coffee house themed concession stand called Cafecito which is also expected to reopen soon.

To celebrate the offical reopening of MBO Cinemas, its Atria Shopping Gallery outlet will be having free movie screenings for the public this weekend from Dec 24 till 26.
