#Showbiz: 'Squid Game' director discusses Season 2, possibility for Season 3

KUALA LUMPUR: After recently confirming that the global smash hit TV series Squid Game would be back for Season 2, its director and writer Hwang Dong Hyuk has now revealed some plot points about the Netflix show.

According to Soompi, Hwang Dong Hyuk gave fans a little insight into what the next season would be like during an interview with KBS yesterday.

"I'm currently in the midst of discussions with Netflix about Season 2 and Season 3.

"I think we'll be reaching some sort of conclusion (to our discussions) soon.

"We know that many people are waiting, so everyone is working hard to prepare for the next season with a positive outlook," he said.

Hwang Dong Hyuk added that the focus of the season would be the story of Seong Gi Hun (played by Lee Jung Jae) unravelling the mysteries of the organisation behind the game.

"The overarching plotline of Season 2 will be the story of the people that Gi Hun meets and the people he chases after," he said.

Netflix had also announced the possibility of a third season for Squid Game.

"It's true that we are discussing a wide variety of possibilities for Squid Game, including the production of Season 3, but nothing has been set in stone yet," it said in a statement.

According to Netflix, Squid Game has been in the top spot on the streaming platform's top 10 rankings of its most popular shows for weeks.

In October, the streaming platform had revealed that 111 million global Netflix subscribers had watched the series.

Variety had also reported that the series has already been watched for more than 3 billion minutes and is reportedly projected to make Netflix almost US$900 million (about RM3.73 billion) in value.
