#Showbiz: 'Don't go overboard with criticisms' - Hattan to GV8 judges

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular singer-actor Datuk Hattan is a staunch fan of Astro reality show Gegar Vaganza 8 (GV8), but he does not always agree with the remarks of its judges.

He recently ticked off GV8 judge and Indonesian pop legend Hetty Koes Endang for "going overboard" in her criticisms of the contestants and their weekly performances.

The 58-year-old artiste who used to be a judge on another Astro reality show Akademi Fantasia (AF) said that Hetty ought not to "teach contestants about proper singing techniques" while commenting on their performances.

"Criticism is good, but it should not be done to the extent of discouraging the contestants. Judges should remember that GV8 is for experienced artistes, and it is not proper to tell them about 'proper singing methods' after their performances," he said in a news report today.

Hattan added that judges should instead point out the weaknesses of each contestant's performance as well as the strengths, so that the contestant could improve in the next concert.

"Perhaps being a harsh critic will push the show's ratings up, but I don't agree that such should be the way."

He also said that the judges ought to show contestants the techniques that they felt make a performance great "after the live concert is over".

For 13 weeks beginning 9pm on Jan 28, Hattan will join Datuk Awie and Mas Idayu as a judge in the second season of Awesome TV's reality show Mic On! (MO2).
