#Showbiz: 'Squid Game' first non-English show to receive US Producers Guild Award nomination

KUALA LUMPUR: Global megahit Korean drama thriller series Squid Game continues garner attention on the international awards circuit.

According to Soompi, the Producers Guild of America (PGA) Awards had announced its nominees for the 2022 edition and Squid Game was in the list.

The popular TV series currently streaming on Netflix has been nominated in the Best Episodic Drama category together with The Handmaid's Tale, The Morning Show, Succession and Yellowstone.

This makes Squid Game the first non-English language TV show to ever receive a nomination.

The show had also recently garnered four nominations for the 28th Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards in the US.

It was nominated for the top category of Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series, as well as Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series for Lee Jung Jae, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series for Jung Ho Yeon and Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Television Series.

A surprise phenomenal hit, Squid Game which began streaming on Sept 17 last year was reported to have racked up a whopping 1.65 billion hours of viewing in just 28 days.
