#Showbiz: 'Stranger Things' Season 4 coming in May, Season 5 will be last

KUALA LUMPUR: Popular sci-fi horror series Stranger Things will be back with its fourth season split into two volumes in May and July.

The Netflix show's creators Matt and Ross Duffer released an open letter to fans yesterday to provide a few updates on the worldwide hit series.

"There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things: new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.

"With nine scripts, over eight-hundred pages, almost two years of filming, thousands of visual effects shots and a runtime nearly twice the length of any previous season, Stranger Things 4 was the most challenging yet, but also the most rewarding one.

"Everyone involved is incredibly proud of the results, and we can't wait to share it with you.

"Given the unprecedented length, and to get it to you as soon as possible, Season 4 will be released in two volumes.

"Volume One will release on May 27; Volume Two will release five weeks later on July 1," wrote the Duffer Brothers.

The brothers also confirmed that Season 5 would conclude the epic story arc for the people of Hawkins and beyond, as well as the mysterious Upside Down and serve as the final instalment to the popular series.

"It's bigger than ever, it's also the beginning of the end. Seven years ago, we planned out the complete story arc for Stranger Things.

"At the time, we predicted the story would last four to five seasons. It proved too large to tell in four, but — as you'll soon see for yourself — we are now hurtling toward our finale.

"Season 4 will be the penultimate season; season 5 will be the last," they said.

The upcoming season will take place six months after the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins.

Sruggling with the aftermath, the spunky group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn't made things any easier.

In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.

Since its release in 2016, Stranger Things has garnered over 65 award wins and 175 award nominations.

The global phenomenon is one of Netflix's most-watched titles, with Season 3 amassing 582 million view hours ranking as the second most popular English-language series in the Netflix Top 10, and Season 2 accounting for 427 million view hours ranking at No.10.
