#Showbiz: 4K digitally restored 'Mukhsin' to have one-day screening at GSC

KUALA LUMPUR: The late Yasmin Ahmad's filmic masterpiece Mukhsin will be returning to the big screen as a 4K digitally restored version for one day only at GSC Mid Valley here on March 26.

The restoration project for the 2006 feature film was carried out by The Japan Foundation Asia Centre (JFAC) in an effort to restore Asian masterpieces, in cooperation with Primeworks Studios and Imagica Lab in Japan.

Under the supervision of the film's director of photography Low Soon Keong, the project was carried out using a 35mm positive print and by utilising globally acclaimed Japanese film restoration technology.

The restored version was premiered at the 33rd Tokyo International Film Festival (TIFF) in October 2020 and a special screening for the cast and crew of the film was held recently at the Aurum Theatre in The Gardens Mall.

The event was attended by Syafie Naswip, Sharifah Aryana, Amira Nasuha and Rozie Rashid, as well as tonton COO Amir Rasyidi who represented Primeworks Studios and Finas board member Ku Mohamad Haris Ku Sulong.

Mukhsin had its world premiere at the 19th edition of TIFF in Japan in 2006.

It tells a story of the blossoming romance between Orked (Aryana) and Mukhsin (Shafie) who visits her village to spend the school holidays.

This film is the last of the Orked trilogy, and a prequel to Sepet and Gubra. After its release, Mukhsin went on to win the Generation Kplus International Jury's Grand Prix of the Deutsches Kinderhilfswerk at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival in 2007.

The screening of the 4K digitally restored version will take place at 1pm and 3.15pm on March 26.

Admission is free but prior booking is required via Eventbrite (www.eventbrite.com).
