#Showbiz: Amy Search criticised for 'inability to sing live'

KUALA LUMPUR: Rock legend Suhaimi Abdul Rahman or Amy Search was recently criticised by Netizens for being "unable to sing live".

However, the 64-year-old lead singer of rock band Search was unperturbed by his detractors, and said that "it was one of those days" where he did not deliver his best performance.

"Netizens are free to criticise my performances. I accept constructive criticism with an open heart," said Amy in a news report yesterday.

A video of Amy performing Search's hit song Isabella went viral on social media recently, and many Netizens felt that the rock veteran could no longer "hit the high notes".

Some of them even felt that his team of musicians' new arrangement of the song lacked "oomph" compared to the original version which made its debut in 1989, while others felt that the sound system of the venue where he performed was bad.

Amy, the father of award-winning actress and television host Nabila Huda Suhaimi, left the 41-year-old Search in March 2020.

However, he teamed up with former Search guitarists Nasir Daud and Hillary Ang and Lefthanded guitarist Man Kidal to form a new version of Search late last year.

Guitarists Nordin Mohd Taib and Hamzah Mohd Taib or Kid continued to perform as the "original" Search, and roped in Indonesian rock singer Denden Gonjalez to replace Amy as their lead singer.
