#Showbiz: Bunkface's new single 'Korang' looks back at its indie beginnings

KUALA LUMPUR: Local pop punk rock band Bunkface recently released its first single for 2022 titled Korang.

The sentimental track represents a pensive look back at the humble beginnings of the music outfit that has been active since 2005.

Korang is also a celebration of the band member's close supporters which include their good friends as well as their fans that have stayed with them throughout the years.

Bunkface is currently comprises of lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist Sam (Shamsul Anuar), bass guitarist Youk (Farouk Jaafar) and lead guitarist Paan (Ahmad Farhan).

Unlike the group's other songs which were mostly written by its frontman Sam, Korang was a team effort co-written by the other band members, as well as Epul Kuat, Izzy Musa and Shahir.

"This song tells a story about the beginning of our journey as a band called Bunkface in the independent scene.

"We really appreciate the experiences that we went through with our many fans and close friends around us that never stopped being a pillar of support for Bunkface.

"So, this song is really for all of you, 'korang semua'," said the band in a recent statement.

Sam added that, "Everyone has memories, all have hearts, people have those that they love, everyone has someone, korang."

Bunkface has won two Anugerah Industri Muzik awards for Best Rock Song for Situasi and Rentak Laguku.

The band, which has released five studio albums and an EP, played at the Summer Sonic Festival in Tokyo, Japan in 2015.

Its most recent songs released in the past two years are Akhir Zaman, Tolong, Yang Benar Aku and Sentiasa Bersamamu.
