#Showbiz: Bonuses for 'Mat Kilau' stars in the pipeline

KUALA LUMPUR: The producer of blockbuster historical film Mat Kilau: Kebangkitan Pahlawan has some great news for its ensemble cast.

Abdul Rahman Mat Dali, 62, said that his company Studio Kembara would be making bonus payments to actors and actresses involved in the two-hour epic based on the life and struggles of Pahang's best known warrior Mat Kilau Imam Rasu.

"They've all done a splendid job and deserve a reward. Their hard work has made Mat Kilau an all-time box office champion in Malaysian cinema," he said in an interview with Berita Harian Online today.

Abdul Rahman also said that his company planned to promote the traditional Malay martial art of silat, which Mat Kilau and his fellow freedom fighters of 19th century Pahang excelled in.

"Silat is our heritage and it is heartening to know that Mat Kilau got many youngsters interested in it. We in Studio Kembara will do our best to highlight the benefits of this martial art."

Abdul Rahman, who also owns Az-Zahrah Islamic Medical Centre, said that his film company would continue producing films that educated Malaysians and introduced them to inspirational historical figures and stories.

"Films are supposed to educate as much as entertain. Educated viewers are vital for nation-building and also for the growth of the film industry."

The RM8-million Mat Kilau opened in cinemas nationwide on June 23, and is jointly produced by Studio Kembara and Skop Productions Sdn Bhd.

Filmed over 100 days in Pahang, Melaka, Perak and Selangor, it stars Datuk Adi Putra in the title role.

The other actors and actresses include Beto Kusyairy, Fattah Amin, Johan As'ari, Yayan Ruhian, Wan Hanafi Su and Zarina Zainoordin.

Mat Kilau has raked in more than RM23 million at the box office after a week in cinemas.
