#Showbiz: AIM returns next month after five-year break

KUALA LUMPUR: The Mandarin and Tamil editions of Aungerah Industri Muzik (AIM) have now been absorbed into the main edition, resulting only in one awards show when it returns for the 23rd time on Sept 11.

This was announced by Rosmin Hashim, chairman of Recording Industry Association Of Malaysia (RIM) and organising committee of AIM23, at the launch of the awards event at Hard Rock Café here yesterday.

He added that this move was in line with the Keluarga Malaysia concept of one for all, rather than holding three separate events catering to three different major ethnicities in the country.

Meanwhile, Rosmin said that since the last AIM was held in 2016, everyone in the local music industry had expressed their excitement with the upcoming music gala set to take place at the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) Auditorium.

"We're thrilled to host the 23rd installation of AIM after a long hiatus and it's heartening to see the local music industry is recovering during this post pandemic period.

"It has been a while since people in the industry have received the recognition they deserve, especially the honour that comes from winning an AIM award," he said.

AIM23 award nominations are open to songs/albums in Malay, English, Chinese and Indian languages which were released in Malaysia between Jan 1, last year and June 30, 2022. Nominations by RIM members to be submitted by 5pm on Aug 5.

There will be 26 categories for this edition, and the awards show will be beamed live on Astro.

"We're excited to be a part of AIM23, which will recognise the incredible talents who have shown excellence in local music industry in the past 18 months.

"As the official broadcaster, it's a privilege for Astro to showcase those who have created impact during that period," said Norzeha Mohd Salleh, head of Astro Ria, Prima and Warna.
